Kia Piki Te Ora – He Whai Mo Te Ora Hui

Within the kaupapa of Te Hikutanga, the Kia Piki Te Ora team—Jaycee, Char, and Reno—are calling on our whānau to stand up and be champions for those who need us most. On March 22, 2025, they will host the He Whai Mo Te Ora Hui, a kaupapa designed to build a network of support for whānau affected by suicidal thoughts.

“This hui is not just about learning – it’s about action, connection, and making sure that no one in our communities feels alone in their struggles. We’re all here for you.”
– Reno Tahitahi-Matiu

Building a Network of Champions

Within every whānau, there are those trusted, reliable, and caring individuals who others turn to in times of need. They are the ones who hold the space, who listen without judgment, who offer comfort in the hardest of times. Kia Piki Te Ora is calling on those people—the aunties, uncles, brothers, sisters—to stand as pou for their whānau, as pillars of support.

At He Whai Mo Te Ora, you will meet others who want to help their whānau, learn simple ways to support someone in need, feel more confident spotting the signs of struggle, and find out where to access further training and support. The journey doesn’t stop here—this is just the beginning.

While the March 22 hui is the starting point, the kaupapa will not end there. Additional training will be offered to deepen the understanding of suicide prevention, provide practical tools for whānau, and connect champions with services that can tautoko them in their mahi. Through booklets, waiata, and key resources, Kia Piki Te Ora aims to equip whānau with the knowledge and confidence to support those at risk.

Kia kaha, kia māia, kia aroha—together, we save lives.
E tū, whānau! The Time to Step Forward is Now.
