Alcohol and long term hauora
Alcohol does not just affect us in the moment. Over time, drinking alcohol can increase the risk of cancer and other serious health conditions.
Many people are surprised to learn that there is no safe level of alcohol when it comes to cancer risk. Even small amounts can play a role in long‑term harm.
The good news is that reducing how much we drink, or choosing alcohol‑free, can lower these risks and support better health for ourselves and our whānau.
This kōrero is about awareness, not blame. Understanding the connection helps us make informed, protective choices.
Myth Vs Fact

Fact:
All types of alcohol increase cancer risk. It is the alcohol itself, not the type.
Myth:
“If I feel fine, my health is fine.”
Fact:
Cancer and other long‑term conditions can develop quietly over years without obvious signs.
Myth:
“It’s too late to make a difference.”
