As a Kaimahi Ākonga on the 10-week Te Pae Tawhiti Programme, my mahi is about walking alongside our Ākonga to support their hauora and journey toward positive change, whether that's stepping into work, study, or simply finding stability.
I help facilitate weekly sessions focused on wellbeing, identity, resilience, and goal setting, while also supporting Ākonga one-on-one where needed.
What makes this programme truly unique is our kaupapa Māori approach, grounded in whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and meeting people where they're at.
A big part of that is sharing lunch together each time we meet.
Kai brings people together, it can break down barriers, spark kōrero, and create a sense of connection that many have been missing.
No matter what challenges our Ākonga are carrying, they keep showing up, and that speaks to the safe, supportive, and uplifting space that Te Pae Tawhiti offers.
I feel privileged to be part of this kaupapa, both as a kaimahi and a supporter, helping to uplift our people in Te Hiku.
