Dr. Hinemoa Elder Joins Te Hiku Hauora!
Te Hiku Hauora is thrilled to announce that Dr. Hinemoa Elder, a celebrated psychiatrist, has joined our team. Dr. Elder brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise, and her arrival marks a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to enhance the health and wellbeing of our whānau.
Dr. Hinemoa Elder is of Ngāti Kurī, Te Rarawa, Te Aupōuri, and Ngāpuhi descent, which aligns beautifully with our kaupapa here in the north. She is renowned for her work in child and adolescent psychiatry, particularly in the area of traumatic brain injury (TBI) among Māori tamariki and taiohi. Her dedication to integrating Māori cultural values and language into her practice has earned her widespread respect and recognition.
Dr. Elder's career is distinguished by her numerous contributions to the field of psychiatry. She holds a PhD focused on developing tikanga-based therapeutic frameworks for Māori children with TBI and has been awarded prestigious fellowships and honours, including the Health Research Council of New Zealand Eru Pomare Post-Doctoral Fellowship and the Innovation and Science Award at the New Zealand Women of Influence Awards. In 2019, she was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to psychiatry and Māori.
We are immensely excited to welcome Dr. Elder to Te Hiku Hauora. Her expertise and passion for community health will significantly elevate our efforts in building a healthier future for our whānau. Dr. Elder will be embarking on some exciting projects with us, focusing on innovative approaches to mental health care and the creation of new rauemi (resources).
