Te Hiku Hauora’s aim is to help all members of the community achieve optimal health and we are committed to making a difference within our whanau, hapu and Iwi.
The Korikori A Kaumatua service provides a fun, free programme for elders 50 years and over. Kaimahi Koha Hoeft is extremely passionate about getting our kaumatua involved and helping them to get the most out of life.
Come and join us at our “Oranga Kai” nutritional classes which involves cooking, meal preparation, label reading and food budgeting. Each week we also provide a range of different physical activities from water aerobics to fitness sessions. You can choose from He Kakano (low impact), He Puawai (moderate impact) and Tane Mahuta (intense level of fitness and activity), finishing off at the end of the day with a simple stroll in the park.
You can access Korikori A Kaumatua’s services through the other services here at Te Hiku Hauora, by being referred by other agencies or simply refer yourself. It’s that simple!!
We are rockin’ it old school at this year’s Kaumatua Games with a 1970’s theme, you can be as creative and innovative as you like and dress up in your grooviest costume. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize for best 70’s dressed and a light complementary lunch will be provided. The event will be held at the Te Ahu Centre on Wednesday 30th August from 9.30am-2.30pm.
There will be a full range of games provided by Te Hiku Hauora’s teams (Mobile Nursing, Dental Health Promotion, Korikori and Stop Smoking),. All games will be health related and age specific, creating an atmosphere that will be full of competition, laughter, camaraderie all helping to build relationships (whakawhanaungatanga) with each other.
This is an opportunity to participate in something especially designed for kaumatua, it’s all about encouraging our kaumatua, building confidence and empowerment to join in and give it a go. Whether it is physically or socially – creating an environment that is all about kaumatua and their well-being is what it’s all about. So get inspired, get creative and let’s get down and boogie!
