This year Te Hiku Hauora will be hosting the Youth Awards to celebrate the youth spirit, youth pride and youth community connectivity and hoping to continue this as an annual event in the coming future. Nominations are now open.
Nominees must be aged between 13-24 years of age, live in the Te Hiku region and have completed the activities nominated for, with in the last 12 months from the 1st June 2016- 31stMay 2017.
Nomination forms can be collected and returned to Te Hiku Hauora Youth Space-4B Redan Road, Te Hiku Hauora (Main Reception) – 49 Redan Road or by emailing damien.rice@hauora.net.nz all nominations will close 5pm, 19th May. Judges decision will be final and no correspondence shall be entered into. The top two nominees for each award will be notified by Wednesday 24th May 2017
The categories are as follow:
Maori Achievement Award sponsored by Te Hiku Hauora is to the recipient that demonstrates respect and commitment to their Maori cultural heritage, they promote the learning of Te Ao Maori values and speak Te Reo Maori. They actively encourage other Maori to stand tall and be proud of being a New Zealand Maori.
Leadership Award this is sponsored by Far North Safer Community Council to the recipient that inspires people to achieve bigger and better things around the Te Hiku region, someone who leads by example, produces results and creates a vision to be shared with our Te Hiku Youth.
Empowerment Award sponsored by Bluelight goes to the recipient that provides support to youth or others to allow them to accomplish their goals and contribute to society in a positive way.
Volunteer Award has been sponsored by Raid Movement Muriwhenua to the recipient who willingly provides tangible service within the community for the benefit of youth.
Youth Group Award is sponsored by Moana Creative to a group that has provided tangible services to the Te Hiku community for the empowerment of others, without seeking compensation for services rendered.
Youth Entrepreneur Award is sponsored by Kai Ora Honey to a recipient of Te Hiku who is running a business within Te Hiku which is offering an outstanding service and is inspiring more entrepreneurs.
Art Award is sponsored by Tawhara Law to the recipient that excels in the various branches of creative activity, such as art, music, literature and dance.
Supreme Award is sponsored by Far North Youth Council selected by the judges panel from the nominations, the supreme award winner will be a young person who, in the eye of the judges displays virtues of the highest calibre across the youth sector and across most of all the categories.
The awards will be held on Friday 2nd June 2017 at the Te Ahu Centre from 5.30pm to 9pm, formal dress is required with light refreshments and entertainment provided throughout the evening. All tickets are available from the “Youth Space” 4B Redan Road from 3pm-6pm weekdays, gold coin koha is gratefully accepted.
