Te Hiku Hauora is privileged to provide local secondary school students who show outstanding achievement in Te Reo Māori with the Dr Bruce Gregory Merit Award. The study of Te Reo Māori has become an increasingly popular degree option as a result of evolving government policy and social attitudes. Careers are available in areas such as teaching, library work, law, research, iwi organisations, policy analysts, service delivery areas of government, local body and private organisations.

Language revitalisation is key to retaining Maori cultural identity and uniqueness in the world, gives students expertise in a major aspect of their own culture and something they can be very proud of; this is why Te Hiku Hauora is committed to offering the Dr Bruce Gregory Merit Award to students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in Te Reo Māori.
